Hello Tuban (1)

It is an evening. In a little town, Tuban. If you are not Indonesian, I am not so sure you will know my hometown. or If you are not an indigenous of East Java, I am also not so sure that you will know this small town.

Well, Tuban is not well-known anyway. But behind it's unpopularity, Tuban saved a lot of history in previous time. Particularly histories that relate to "Wali". Wali is a term used to denote a person or people with privilege. We often say it Waliyullah, people who are called waliyullah are highly believed has authority of God. In global term, maybe you will familiar to call Wali with the name Muslim Saint or Holy Person.

Formerly, Tuban was part of Majapahit, one of great Kingdom in it's time. Tuban was also the very first key of how Islam entering Indonesia. Maybe you have heard the name of Syekh Subakir a.k.a Sayyid Syamsuddin Al Bakir Al Farsi, He was the man behind the success of Islam's spreading in Indonesia.

At the time, Indonesia - especially Java was dominated by spirits. The most famous one of that spirits is Sabda Paloh Naya Genggong.

I do sorry, tonight, this introduction is enough. We will see you again with story of how Sabda Paloh and Syekh Subakir interacted and then the interaction between the two of them eventually affected Javanese culture nowadays. See you so soon ^^
